Walter and Louise Eagle (my nan and granddad) married in 1899 and probably lived in Catherine Street most of their married lives and had 9 children (nan died in 1934).
Granddad had worked in the docks as did other members of the family, holidays were probably hop picking and any animals kept were mainly for food. My aunt Lou lost her intended husband in WW1 and can be seen in the distance at the peace party wearing black.
I think life on the whole was happy and everyone seemed to get on. My aunt Liz could name everyone in the street

.

A lot of people had pianos in those days. Sometimes they would be dragged out the street if there was a street party and quite a few people played the piano. I don’t think they could have cost that much then.
